Stolen Ideas: #Apple Didn’t Build That & Why I still choose Apple!

This is my response/introspection after reading http://mashable.com/2012/10/27/apple-stolen-ideas/If you think apple is a company innovating software and hardware … You might start seeing it as a thief, may not appreciate much. Now see it as an innovative integrator, providing the best experience by combining the features people never knew were cool profitable and rewarding.Let me draft … Rest tomorrow

@samsungmobile Challenge: How 2 keep the Customer?

I would like you to click on Android Phone Menu(s) [opens in new window.]

All look alike, work alike, have similar hardware configurations, applications and functionality. Good for the customer ? May be and May be not!

I own laptops of various makes, but stuck to thinkpad over the years for one reason, I got addicted to the layout. though the underlying operating system either windows/linux/mac is going to be the same experience matters a lot too. with computers you have more freedom and possibility to differentiate the product substantially to make the switch little more difficult, you can play with fn keys, number pad, combination / convenience keys touch pad, trackpad, trackball you name it.

In the recent past, I upgraded to new ubuntu, which was way different in look and feel compared to the earlier versions, some liked it and majority hated it for lack of usability, it looked more like a fancy toy than operating system to us, so like many other I tried to find a way to get back to the look and feel I wanted it to have, changed the configurations to suite my tastes. this is laptop/desktop story.

With mobiles you are constrained to do any of that unless you really customise to great extent without making it useless in terms of upgrades etc., Mobile OS != Desktop OS.

With Android as underlying operating system google apps/play as the appstore you pretty much get the same menu, same apps, same look, feel and functionality.

There are only two possibilities if the user gets bored of the looks which can be possible after seeing same thing everywhere … because we like to see the change and obvious choices are either iphone or blackberry or a windows phone.

Ok lets assume users are not bored of it, but want to upgrade their phone for some reason, How difficult it would be to a samsung customer to choose a motorola or lg or some other and function exactly the same way he used to ? Not difficult at all … he has got same apps, same looks and same features but may be they load faster because of underlying processor.

One thing Amazon’s kindle (New) guys realised is how it is killing their ecosystem and started moving away from the appstore. No matter how hard a user is going to cry, they don’t give a bit of attention and they won’t move or let the google play accessible on their kindle. they will promote their machine and experience they may call it to hold the customer.

Windows doing similar thing, their operating system weather it is good/bad or ugly have got something to differentiate and hold the customer.

Should Samsung sell Android phones ? May be they should because there aren’t many options left, but they should really work hard on giving better experience to the user, differentiate, customise and create an ecosystem to support such efforts. My Suggestion would be probably to promote and customise the application preloads to match business user/teenager/older user and bundle the phones in those lines to attract the customers.

They Need to focus on being in touch continuesly without hurting the privacy of the users. They need innovation more than any one else because Motorola+Google is going to suck the blood out of the other manufacterers weather they reveal or not.

Now its time to think original, think wise differentiate significantly. Samsung ads can’t and should not look like apple’s any more.

Weather its Samsung or #HTC or any other … With Android you are in no position to dominate, its Android that is going to matter weather you take it or leave it.

@Airtel_Presence Broadband Customer Retention vs New Customer Acquisition #Fail

When I relocated to Hyderabad nearly 4 years back, I subscribed for Airtel Broadband, I liked their service and some times I did not like like any service provider.

But what pissed me off is their policy (Blame the moron who wrote the policy or Write a policy that says Customer Care is important) who woke up in the middle of night and told, we won’t give modems repaired/replaced after 1 year of service.

Its not only foolish but extreme lack of customer care because you need that god damn device to connect to the web, for which you are charging us. There are service providers providing Fibre optic, with whom I am extremely satisfied with. eg., Reliance,Beam … BSNL …

Why would I stick to a provider who doesn’t care for me, any more than his stupid policies ? If I opt out of the plan, Airtel Will provide modem for free for new connection, but they don’t care about the old customer ? WTF?

Let us assume I am taking that route of disconnecting from my current Airtel Service, and opt for a new one with a different name … just the for the sake of exploiting your stupid policy … It questions my interest in a provider who will again create problem next year when my modem dies.

I need to call customer service, wait for hours to just get the god damn modem working, and they say “It can’t be repaired, we won’t replace, but you will get your monthly bill”

So I am choosing to get rid of the Airtel Connection and opting for Reliance Broadband.

Airtel Management go hell with it, Unless you face the client face to face, and attend calls you are stupid to make a decision for a company investing on your abilities.

Infact they had earlier provided best service, now they seem to concentrate on moving Bharti Beetel’s inventory out ? I Don’t know but I hate it.

“This website/URL has been blocked until further notice” either pursuant to Court orders or on the Directions issued by the Department of Telecommunications”

I am disappointed by the govt., by the decisions taken without considering the facts, with limited knowledge on what is impacted because of the actions.

This action is like Blocking entire CWG because there has been corruption or Blocking people from knowing the facts because politicians are corrupt.

With due respect to the judiciary, I hoped they don’t impose stupidity on informed.

  • Torrents are not only used to share the copyrighted material.
  • Torrents / P2P is just a medium of sharing data
  • Using Torrentz is not illegal and Can’t be in any country.
  • Why should I obey your stupid rules because you thought its wrong? Please get out and read basics of computer science and information technology before implementing something like this

I am forgetting I am in a Free and Fair country or in the middle of stupidity

Whats wrong with #RIM (Research in Motion) #Blackberry ? “Inertia”

I loved my experience Blackberry experience always and went on to say the iphone is for the entertainment and blackberry for the productivity. (Once)

Their initial business model was good, when the people wanted secure email communication on the go, but now that needs no additional ifrastructure, people can get all that and more at fraction of what RIM offers the services with equal or nearly equal security.

RIM has become a burden, bottleneck, for the RIM,Blackberry, Service Providers, Users. Choices are less, Innovation in the handheld devices are near NULL.

So I was wondering if isolation is really the right thing? and if RIM should stick to lethargy,Inertia and bring in what it has in the name “Motion”, Action and Innovation to the market ?

Its high time to expand the business, improve the service and open the system from closed, which has been generating revenues so far. Now their game plan should be to add premium features for the corporate customers needing more secure communication, but should let the others do what they want to do with the mobiles without causing lot of trouble.

Just sell plain vanilla phone that can be used as I like, you forget complicated stuff, let me forget the complicated stuff. you will gain market share in no time. after all Nokia+Microsoft is having why not you?

Think! Seriously and Act Fast!

Marriage of Twitter and Posterous – Elegance Simplicity and Power

I really love both the products, Twitter and posterous for the elegance, simplicity of Posterous, and twitter for its power to make a difference to the world we live in in addition to the common characteristics of both Simplicity Power

I think this is wonderful merger by design, bound to succeed! Posterous simplified communicating longer, while twitter showed 140 characters is what is needed to bring change, one at a time.

like many other acquisitions, this is certainly a skill and talent acquisition more than any other, because there aren’t many employees at posterous.

I must say, after a long time we have a show we would wake up for on a Sunday morning. It’s SATYAMEV JAYATE!

The first episode covered ‘Sex Determination Tests’, leading to Abortions in India, an issue known to each and every one of us, but still ignored. The show put the light on how ‘Female Foeticide’ has been made a business by doctors and how till date, not just the uneducated section of society, but also the ‘cream of the society’ fight for a baby boy and KILLS THE GIRL CHILD (harassing the mother as well – thinking of her being a culprit if she conceives a girl). By the way, here’s an EYE OPENER – it’s a male’s sperm that decides the sex of the baby. So, in-laws, isn’t it time to harass your son for a baby boy? It’s depressing to know that women in India, even…

Important Update :

I am so fortunate to know doctors Dr. Ramachandra Rao, Dr. Jayalakshmi from Kuchipudi parents of Dr.Movva Srinivas (Cardiology) and Dr. Sridevi (Gynacology ), I think their efforts to reduce female infanticides/Foeticides by asking the parents and families of the girl child if they want a girl child or not, taking care of the child themselves till they find a suitable parents who are employed, financially stable  without children.

Being in Rural Andhra Pradesh, I think their services do deserve “Thanks” and “Appreciation” for doing noble thing without expecting anything in return.

I hope many doctors take them as example in saving the precious girl child.

4Cs of Entreprenuership

In Continuation to my previous blog post (Say Yes! Only when you mean it!) I wanted to hint on most common factors successful Entrepreneurs have

After little reading and little observation I jotted down 4 of them

Commitment: Commitment should be felt in writing, in words and actions because otherwise its at the best a good intention. Commitment not only makes you think rigorously about what you want to do but also convinces your friends family who should always support and clients.

Conviction: Commitment itself is not enough because Entrepreneurial route, is not a free ride and you may not see success as quickly as you want to see it, so more than any one you should first believe in yourself and your idea.

Creativity: Creativity may not sound the right word, but Innovation is also one kind of creativity which makes users /clients think about your product or service while they ask for USP (Unique Selling proposition).

Communication: You have all the 3Cs above, but unless you go out and communicate about it,its impossible to convince and make a business of your efforts. You need to be your Brand Ambassador, Brand Manager and Evangelist making every possible conversation you have with others a sales pitch.

I am not sure if they are difficult or easy, but feel most essential for me and for many in the Entrepreneurs.

All the very best for your future
